Meet the Team

Elliot Ng, BA ’02, MA ’03
President and Contributor, Newsletter

Elliot has been an executive of the UBC-TO Alumni Network since 2006. After working as an Account Manager at The St. John Group, Elliot joined Rogers Communications managing channel marketing advertising.

Elliot is active in social causes. Along with other UBC alums in Toronto, he recently completed a TFC event sponsoring youths from Pathways to Education’s Regent Park program and A Reception to Rebuild Haiti. Last year, he co-founded Toronto Works For Haiti, a fundraising campaign for the disaster relief efforts in Haiti.

His goal for UBC-TO is to double active alumni participation in Toronto by 2015 with community events and mentorship programs. He’s always looking for more volunteers to help out.

Danielle Da Cruz, BA ’05
Mentorship Program Chair

Danielle graduated from the Arts Co-op program in 2005. Following her career in market research with Ipsos Reid, she made the move to Toronto in June 2009. She is passionate about civic engagement and connecting people with one another. In her role she will be responsible for developing a mentorship program for the Toronto Alumni Network. Her hope is to connect recent grads or new Torontonians with more experienced Alumni so they can share their experiences, successes and challenges of life in Toronto and the larger working world.

Sami Dong, B. Com ’08
Sponsorship Chair and Newsletter Lead

Sami graduated from UBC in 2008 with a B. Com degree. She moved to Toronto in 2009 and now she works as a Business Development Specialist in a Telecommunication company. In her spare time, she volunteers for a few non profit organizations. She is excited about involving with UBC-TO and looking forward to meeting more fellow UBC Alumni in Toronto.

Program Chair

Briar Gorton is the Program Chair at UBC-TO, and organizes the Alumni Weekend and many other events to get UBC-TO Alumni engaged and connected.

Viet Ha Pham, B.Com
Editor, Newsletter

Viet graduated from UBC with a BCom degree. Originally from Jakarta, Indonesia, Viet moved to Vancouver for university and then to Toronto for work. She currently works with Maple Leaf Foods in the Fast Track program. Her interests include digital marketing, travelling, food, and photography. Connect with her on Twitter @viet416.


Katherine Lee, BA ’05
Community Development Chair

Katherine works for the Ministry of Education with a focus in program and event coordination. In her past times, Katherine is actively involved in her community. She co-founded Toronto Works for Haiti, a fundraising co-operative made up of Toronto small businesses and volunteer. Katherine is the Community Development Chair and she is looking forward to connecting with alumni and students and building a great presence of UBC in Toronto.

Kristen Miller, B.Sc ’07
Entertainment Chair and Editor, Newsletter

Kristen graduated from UBC in 2007 with a B.Sc. Degree in Cell Biology and Genetics. She then completed her Masters in Human Genetics at Sarah Lawrence College in 2010. Kristen currently works as a genetic counsellor at a hospital in the Toronto area. She is excited for the opportunity of bringing UBC alumni together at social events, and strengthening the UBC community in Toronto.

Lena Ding, B. Com ’07
Treasurer

After graduation from UBC with a Bachelor of Commerce in 2007, Lena continued to pursue her CGA destination. She worked as a public accountant in Vancouver for two and half years. She is currently a second year MBA student at Rotman School of Management. She was just elected to be the VP Finance of Rotman Asia – Pacific Business Association (RAPBA) to continue her contribution to peer students. Her goal for UBC-TO is to help promoting and providing services for UBC alumni in Toronto by organizing a wide variety of special events hosted by the UBC-TO.
